South Central Farmers Cooperative

May 14, 2009

The South Central Farmers Cooperative purchased over 90 acres in Bakersfield and are growing seasonal produce while they continue to fight former landlord Horowitz and the Forever 21 warehouse slated to go up in their former plot of farmland in downtown (that they were unceremoniously kicked out of with only 30 days notice).

They sell their vegetables at several farmer’s markets throughout LA and also provide affordable boxes for pick up in 6-8 locations through a CSA (community supported agriculture) program. So if you live in LA, enjoy eating fresh, seasonal vegetables and want to support local (really local) farmers, get more details and sign up for boxes HERE.

More on this struggle and the documentary recording it at my soon-to-be-an-urban-planner and all-around awesome friend Shelma’s blog!
